Granite Shoals – The 3rd Annual Veterans Parade and Celebration – one of the largest in the Hill Country – kicks off the day at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November the 8th. This year’s theme is “Freedom is Never Free”
This is the third year that we will honor military men and women who have served in the armed forces. Hundreds lined the mile long parade route to enjoy last year’s parade. It is estimated the parade will double in size over last year, due to invitations to all the surrounding Counties.
This year’s Master of Ceremony will again be the Honorable Mayor Frank Reilly. The Grand Marshall for this year’s parade will be Korean POW, Jimmy Jackson.
The parade starts at South Phillips Ranch Rd. at the Water Tower, continues south and ends at Park 10, newly named Veterans Memorial Park. All participants must carry or display the American Flag. Parade watchers lined up early will receive a free US flag.
An outstanding program will follow after the parade and includes a Flag Ceremony by the Highland Lakes Honor Guard supported by the First Calvary Horse Detachment and the Battleship Texas replica along with uniformed Girl and Boy Scouts.
A keynote address by the Honorable Judge Gil Jones, a Navy Veteran and the ever popular Wildflowers Dance Troup are among the program participants.
There will be Barbeque plates sponsored by The Internet Connection and A Z Bail Bonds to help defer costs of this annual event.
Larry Salinas and his Band will provide live music, sponsored by Dave’s Pressure Wash.
